TCVM is an ancient holistic approach to pet health based on Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, adapted specifically for animals. It focuses on restoring balance and harmony within the body by addressing the root causes of illness rather than just symptoms. Backed by scientific research, TCVM offers a natural and non-invasive way to support your pet’s health by enhancing their quality of life.

Our TCVM services include acupuncture (dry needle/ aqua), moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, food therapy and herbal medicine. These individually tailored treatments target pain relief, inflammation reduction, and boost immune support to enhance natural healing for acute or chronic conditions.TCVM treatments can also complement conventional veterinary care to improve patient outcome. Common conditions we treat include but are not limited to: musculoskeletal problems, digestive issues, respiratory problems, urogenital issues, neurological disorders, behavioural issues and geriatric/ palliative care.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is most commonly used for pain management, including arthritis, hip dysplasia, sports injuries, and cruciate ligament tears. It is also beneficial for neurological injuries such as intervertebral disc disease and paralysis. Additionally, acupuncture aids post-stroke recovery and post-surgical rehabilitation (e.g., orthopedic surgeries, spinal surgeries, and joint surgeries), helping to accelerate recovery, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation.

Acupuncture can also be applied to internal medicine treatments, such as digestive issues (constipation, diarrhea), respiratory diseases (coughing, asthma), skin allergies, epilepsy, chronic kidney disease, and urinary incontinence.

However, for pets with severe conditions, weakened health, serious skin infections, coagulation disorders, or extreme anxiety, our veterinarians must carefully assess whether acupuncture is suitable and determine the appropriate number of needles to use.

In these cases, they may have the opportunity to undergo laser acupuncture. Laser acupuncture is a treatment method that applies Western medical laser therapy with selected frequencies and wavelengths to stimulate acupuncture points, producing effects similar to traditional acupuncture. It is particularly suitable for animals that are sensitive to needling or for whom physical acupuncture is not appropriate.

Pets with a history of epilepsy or those with implanted pacemakers are also not suitable for electroacupuncture therapy.

Nutritional Consultation and Food Therapy

Nutrition is a cornerstone of preventive and therapeutic veterinary medicine. Personalized diets based on metabolic needs and disease states optimize immune function and recovery.

Incorporating TCVM food therapy offers additional holistic benefits by balancing organ systems and improving digestion. Food therapy can help manage a range of acute or chronic conditions, aligned with current veterinary nutritional guidelines.

OZONE THERAPY

Ozone therapy’s oxidative properties enhance oxygen delivery and activate antioxidant pathways to promote healing,  combat infections, and promote tissue repair. Clinical studies have demonstrated its usefulness in treating chronic wounds and inflammatory conditions for skin and gut health.

We often use Ozone therapy and Microbiome Restoration Therapy (MBRT) together for gut health restoration. MBRT was developed by Dr. Margo Roman and uses targeted probiotics, prebiotics, and carefully screened donor fecal microbiota transplantation to restore microbial balance.

Ozone therapy breaks down antibiotic-resistant biofilms through its oxidative properties, creating an environment where transplanted beneficial microbes from MBRT can effectively recolonize. Ozone also increases nitric oxide production and improves tissue oxygenation, enhancing the body’s ability to utilize transplanted microbes.

Furthermore, ozone therapy has shown evidence in reducing neuropathic pain while MBRT- induced serotonin production restores gut-brain axis communication. It also has vasodilatory effects which help improve nerve oxygenation.

Vaccinations are crucial for preventing infectious diseases, although protection may not be 100%. Vaccination frequency is based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and local disease risks. Some require yearly boosters, others may be done every 3 years. A consult with your vet will determine which vaccination protocol is best suited for your pet. Titre testing is also available at Trinity Vets to determine if a booster shot is required for adult dogs and cats.

Rabies vaccination & Microchipping

All dogs over 5 months old in Hong Kong must be licensed, microchipped and vaccinated against rabies by law. This is usually given and done on a separate day from other vaccinations.

Rabies vaccination for cats is not compulsory in Hong Kong. However, rabies vaccine +/- microchip may be required by law in other countries if you are thinking of relocating.
